As if putting high tech promethean boards in every classroom wasn't enough, Bethune ES has taken on the challenge to build a world class, state-of-the-art playground for its students.
Bethune is joining forces with the
Atlanta Task Force on Play (ATOP), School Board Member Khaatim S. El and a host of parents, business and community leaders.
Cynthia Gentry, founder of the Atlanta Task Force on Play, is helping to guide the process as a part of its efforts to make Atlanta a more playful city. Atlanta was selected as a 2008 Playful City USA that featured the play needs of Bethune ES and the surrounding community. Khaatim is also a Founding Board member for ATOP!
Principal Rosemary Hamer is calling on all of her schools longtime supporters to make this vision a reality. Already, the Coca-Cola Company has helped to design a donations card using the students renderings of their dream playground.
The votes are in. School Board Member Eric Wilson was on hand to see the top play ground design chosen by the school's students.
For more information or to find out how you can get involved, contact Bethune ES Principal Rosemary Hamer at (404) 802-8200 or rhamer@atlanta.k12.ga.us. Also, visit the school's website to learn why investing in play is the right next step for
Bethune ES.
