Schools out but parents are hard at work: 1st Annual Summer Parent Involvement Boot Camp
School Board Member Khaatim S. El joins the WOW Foundation's Action Team and other parent leaders to organize a series of empowerment workshops for parents on topics ranging from running an effective meeting to taking action that makes a difference.

Let's talk about our schools: AEF organizes living room chats throughout District 2
The Atlanta Education Fund (AEF) partnered with School Board Member Khaatim S. El to host a series of small group discussions with community leaders to hear their thoughts on the progress of the Atlanta Public Schools and the challenges still needing to be addressed. Khaatim also hosts a session at his home for his Mozley Park neighbors.

EANA joins with School Board Member Khaatim S. El and the City of Atlanta's Weed & Seed to launch the Northwest Parent Patrol
Neighborhood leaders in English Avenue conduct a survey and find that youth and public safety are the top two issues people in the community are willing do something about. School Board Member Khaatim S. El jump starts the planning team for the Northwest Parent Patrol, which will serve the areas around Washington HS, Kennedy MS, Bethune and Herndon ES's.

The Least that I Can Do makes a donation to City of Refuge, sparks interest and concern for homeless students
The Least that I Can Do, a giving circle for young professional of which School Board Member Khaatim S. El is a founding member, makes a donation in support of the afterschool tutorial program at City of Refuge, a local shelter for women and children. Morehouse College Revitalization Task Force member Daniel Edwards, who first introduced Khaatim to City of Refuge, will organize a community tour and lunch and learn to ensure that APS policies provide the maximum support to all students and discuss how federal stimulus funds earmarked for homeless students can serve as a potential resource.

Pushing for reform: Comprehensive sex education in APS
With the rise of STDs and teen pregnancies, School Board Member Khaatim S. El joins The Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and the Partnership Against Domestic Violence to push for a change in the way we educate youth about sex and responsible, healthy relationships.
